Muffin the Mule die-cast metal string puppet. It was produced in the late 1940s and early 1950s by the British company Moko Lesney. Character: Based on Muffin the Mule, a popular character from early British children's television who first appeared on the BBC in 1946. Material: Made from die-cast metal, which is why many surviving examples show characteristic paint flaking or "usage" wear. Mechanism: It was originally a marionette (string puppet). The small metal “loops” are for cord to be affixed, allowing a child to make the mule move and dance. A charming vintage collectible toy.
