Building the adaptor is straightforward with a fine soldering tip. The 2-pin TX and RX header must also be connected to the corresponding two pins in the Gotek via separate wires. If the wrong TX/RX pins are connected on the Gotek, read or write operations to the Gotek would fail but wouldn't cause any harm to the Gotek or the Apple II.
